Took a very leisurely ride up to Lac d’Estaing today. It is a 15km climb of 4.5%. You start climbing here in the village up the Val d’Azun through Arcizans-Avant, Sireix and Estaing village. The road is not in good condition at the moment as it recently had trenches dug for new cables for high-speed internet. You have to love the French system, everybody has equal rights to access public services and infrastructure, so if you live in a small village up the mountains or in a big city like Toulouse you have equal access to the internet. Well almost, we have an 8mb connection here whereas in Toulouse they have 100mb connection. The cable that has been laid should up grade our speed to 20mb.
Anyway on with the ride.

I have started to use www.strava.com to display routes and data on this site. I will have a full review in a week or two, for the moment I will just say that it has some unique features that simple blow the opposition out of the water. It does not have route planning which is bit of a draw back, so I still use ridewithgps.com for that. Strava’s killer feature is the detection of climbs you have ridden and comparison to your previous rides and to every-other rider who has ridden the same climb. They are based in California, USA, and as I have some previous experience with computer programing I can say this was written by some hotshot database coders, far better than any of their opposition.
Done it again, back to the ride.
