The Gave de Pau river starts from Europe’s highest waterfall at Gavernie and flows down the Lavedan valley past Saint Savin to Lourdes before turning west through Pau and on to the Atlantic at Bayonne. It is a very popular trout fishery and in recent years has seen the return of Salmon after an absence of several decades. In 2009 salmon were reported as far up river as Argeles-Gazost.
The fishing season opens on Saturday March 13th 2010.
