Col du Tourmalet

I rode up the Col du Tourmalet this afternoon to see how far I could get before I hit snow. It has been very warm this last 2 weeks, such a contrast to April last year which was the coldest on record, this one is looking like being the warmest. I got to just above the ski station at Super Baréges at 1800m altitude. It is about 4km from the summit, there really is not much snow left up there, this time last year the ski station was still open. It is still only April and there could be more snow yet. I think the Hautes Pyrénées government will not plough and open the road for at least another month just in case. I’ll try again in about 10 days to see what happens in the mean time.

Col du Tourmalet, not open yet!

Col du Tourmalet snow.

Col du Tourmalet, not much snow, but enought to close the road 4km from the summit..
