Beautiful Sunshine

Jun 04 2013 04:54 PM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

I went for a ride with guests from La Lanterne Rouge Pyrénées Cycling Lodge this morning. Beautiful sunshine all day. We did Col du Spandelles from Argeles-Gazost, descended to Ferrières and then rode up the 12km @ 8% to Col du Soulor. Two super hard climbs and great company.

Rain

May 11 2013 08:35 AM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

It been raining heavily for a few days here. It's still warm and the snow is melting fast. I went for a ride with 4 cyclists from Flanders who are staying at the Cycling Lodge. It was wet, tough and lots of fun. We did Lac d'Estaing, Col des Bordéres and Col du Soulor. The gate to Cirque du Litor was still locked.

Col de Tramassel

Apr 02 2013 11:18 PM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

Spring is proving to be very un-spring like. It's cold wet and windy and forecast to last for at least another week. Tomorrow is the only day likely to be in double figures this week.
In between work in the cycling lodge I'm getting out an the bike for short rides, hopefully can do some longer ones when the weather improves.

Today I rode up Col de Tramassel, by far the hardest climb in the Vallée du Lavedan.

Ride to Luchon

Mar 25 2013 12:16 PM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

I left at 5am to ride to Luchon and back. First 2 hours were in the dark, it was nice to see the dawn and the sunrise over the mountains. The day was much colder than forecast and a few showers in the afternoon turned into 3 hours of torrential rain, hail and lighting. Still it was a great day and lots of fun. Made it home just after dark, about 8pm.

Winter Bites Again!

Mar 13 2013 10:49 PM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

As often happens here in the mountains in spring, winter returns for a day or two to reminder us who is boss. Spring like weather is due to return at the weekend. Despite the cold I went for a ride to Lourdes and back this afternoon. I was well wrapped up. Base layer, arm warmers, jersey, size L long sleeve jersey, size XL long sleeve jersey and a winter jacket. Two pairs of gloves. Feet covered in baby oil, socks and shoe covers. Baby oil is a great trick, keeps them warm on the coldest of days. Leg warmers and long winter bib tights and a racing cap. Perfect.

Hautacam

Feb 17 2013 09:21 PM | Velo Peloton in Cycling

Another beautiful day. I rode to Col du Tramassel, it's a 16km climb at 7.4% with a max of 15%. Col du Tramassel is at the summit of Hautacam, 1.5km above the ski station and Tour de France finish. It's a very hard climb, harder than Col du Tourmalet in my view.
